Colva
Colva is very famous for the popular southern beach in Goa. It was discovered in Hippy discovery in the late 60's and 70's. It is the favorite spot of many tourists. One can easily get so many inexpensive hotels at this place and one can also enjoy the fish locally supplied at restaurants by colourful fishing boats.
One can surely enjoy the simple and placid life at this seaside. Long ago back this was the most beautiful beach in whole Goa. Here you will get the Sun dripping wet and palm fringed extended in long area together, with nothing to bother the calm stillness.
Now days the package tourism has reared its head. AC restaurants, building and complexes, discos and ornament stalls, cold-drink stands make the crowd rush here. Thankfully all this development done here is limited only to a tiny area in Colva.
When one will walk a little distance away from thsi crowd, the perfect Colva with white sands reappear to the visitors. Even though Colva is one of the best beaches in Southern Goa, but it is not as urban or eventful as Calangute beach in the north Goa.
Colva town has no more attraction than the beach to see for the visitors of this town, but a large Church of Our Lady of the Miracles houses an image of Jesus, this image is supposed to have been discovered on the African coast. It has a feast in the month of October. This beach is having very beautiful sand with all around the coconut palms and gently swaying breeze and blue water everywhere.
This beach is lapped by the Arabian Sea and it is dotted with palm groves swaying all time day and night with the golden sands stretching out miles till an eye can view it. This beach of Colva is also the pride of the Salcete people and a tough competitor to the gems of Calangute. It has sand dunes scattered here and the charming views of the sunrise and sunset attracts the visitors, while the musical beat of the waves continually gesture them to the sea.
In the center of a huge sea shore expanding from the mouth of the Sal River in the south to the Cansauli Bay in the north it remind the Brazil's famous Copa Cabana, also its an ex-Portuguese region. It is located at a distance of just 5 kilometer from Margao and it is connected to the city via outstanding tarred road zigzag across the forested scenery.
Local Festivals in Colva
- In Colva in the month of October the Fama of Menino Jesus is celebrated and one can enjoy the with a colourful procession and a fair on this event here in Goa.
- In Colva in the month of April, there is a music and dance festival hosted, Beach Bonanza, from mid-April.
- Also on the second Monday in October Fama de Menino Jesus is a feast day held and when the Menino Jesus, a statue of the infant Jesus said to perform miracles, is paraded.
Places to eat in Colva
Joe Con's is a well-known place for outstanding fresh fish and Goan dishes and Rice Bowls. On a Beach Road it is at a distance of 750 meters from the beach. It is small but with a very good test and unusual Chinese and Nepali, diverse menu is available here.
