Jakhu temple in Shimla is located at a height of about 2455 meters above sea level. This temple has an altitude of 2.5 kms. This temple is devoted to lord Hanuman. Hanuman was one of the most faithful helper of Lord Rama. Jakhu temple is very old temple it exists since the time of Ramayana. It is said that this temple is formed when Lord Hanuman visited this hill. Lord Hanuman visited this hill during the famous fight between Ravana and Rama.

Jahku temple is very important place. During the fight Lakshman, the younger brother of Rama was severely injured and the medicine that could cure his injuries and save his life was found only on Himalaya. So lord Hanuman came all the way to Himalayas and after seeing so many trees he was confused so carried the entire mountain range with him. On his way he took a halt on Jakhu hills. Due the weight of the ‘Sanjeevani’ mountain this hill got flattened. So the local people of this area have preserved this place and believe it to be holy. In the temple there are foot prints of Lord Hanuman and as we all know where there is Lord Hanuman temple there are monkeys.

Jakhu temple is located on the top and in a very thick forest on the Jakhu hills. Jakhu taken from a Hindu word Yakhsa, this means link between human and god. So this temple is one of the popular and important Hindu pilgrimage destinations in north India. This is considered as the most famous Hanuman temple in Shimla. There are many monkeys found here around the temple. These monkeys do not cause any harm to the visitors and the visitors also offers food to eat.

Jakhu temple is on a hill. People like to reach the temple by walking or even trekking. People enjoy this because while trekking they can have some beautiful view of the mountains and the dense forest covering the mountains. People can have a panoramic view of the sunset from the top of the hill. There are many local vendors outside the temple selling the items that are necessary for entering the temple. They have items such as coconut, flowers, sweets and tulsi leaves that are offered to Hanuman as a token of love and respect from the devotees. In return people ask for the blessing of the lord Hanuman.

    Nearest airport is the Shimla airport. It is about just 45 minutes walking distance from Jakhu hills.

    Nearest railway station is the Shimla station which is very close to the Jakhu hill.

    There are state transport buses and luxury buses from Shimla as it is well connected with all the major cities of India. There are pony and other facilities to reach Jakhu hills. People enjoy trekking on this hill and then reach the Jakhu temple.
